Today’s online New York Times includes an article about the increasing importance of career tests. Go here.
Reporter Lisa Belkin took batteries of tests with different testing companies. The results were generally consistent…except for one. One testing battery proclaimed her a non-self-starter.
Belkin pointed out that we could view the service as a missed diagnosis. After all, medical tests come back false positive or false negative. But she also noted that, if she really wanted that one job, she would have been falsely disqualified…with no opportunity for a second opinion.
I was also dismayed to learn that just about every testing service uses the infamous Myers-Briggs test. Experts consider this test about as helpful as astrology.
