Excellent report!!!

It is true, employers don't care about employees anymore. Why should I bother? They do not accept feedback, play games and do not care about career growth.

Doing the bare minimum is just a blessing. Coast on auto pilot and disconnect.

Cheers!

Hi Gina, That is a really good point. Sometimes you can go ahead with a job that's less than ideal. The concern with an "okay" job is that you could sabotage your own success, get yourself fired, and be worse off. Definitely there are ways around this. And it's why I tend to advocate for a side hustle, so you can bring in money while looking.

Cathy:

Great article as always! In a tough economic time, whether local or national, it can be a very difficult choice to say no to employment that you know will be boring or a very bad fit for one's skills and interests. You might have financial pressure to take the first job offered, especially if the salary is good. Family might be pressuring you, as well. Maybe you could do a column about when it is wise to take an "okay" job if necessary? Would there be a proper way to discuss with one's employer how to enrich that position?

Hi Debra,

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. It IS true about doctors. I've moved from the West Coast to East Coast and both human doctors and vets are completely different.

Over time, you'll meet people and learn where the "good" docs (and other services) are.

One thing not mentioned. PLEASE consider leaving your Doctors. Transferring records is a joke, doctors in different areas have different procedures..awful. Yes, you are definately a outsider.

The stress from is move is terrible. Please do your homework.Remember, as i found "you" alone come up short. Family you moved closer to ...go on and those you left behind carry on,

Enjoyed this video. Very easy to relate as a "baby boomer," which essentially is your audience. The challenge is to teach "millenials" these concepts.

My bridge job was to start in mental health and it has paid off in dividends. I returned to MH in a different capacity and see a bright future. Another scenario occurred when I was a newly minted educator and then "fell into" career services 17 yrs ago and never looked back.

I now help clients with 'career jobs," as in military.
Thanks for sharing Cathy!

In reply to <a href="https://midlifecareerstrategy.com/archives/1124/comment-page-1#comment-14750">Jennifer Christiano</a>.

Good questions.

(1) As you get older, you're hitting age discrimination. This is something I talk about elsewhere, not always in this blog.

(2) I only work with people who want to change themselves or their environments. The managers, executives, HR mavens and gatekeepers are not motivated to change. Only legal action will help ... and then up to a point. I do believe you can find ways to be creative and fulfilled, which may mean going outside the corporate structure.
