When clients ask for advice, they’re often frustrated with the answer, “It depends.”
But in fact, most career management challenges depend a great deal on your organizational culture. For example:
- Should you respond to a performance review? In some cultures, being able to accept a bad review and move on is a sign of greatness.
- Should you volunteer for new roles? In some cultures, you’re rewarded. In others, you’re viewed as overeager.
- Should you talk about what you did last weekend? Some cultures expect you to show up Monday morning with a report. Others expect you to keep your personal life off limits.
