Your New Year Career Plan

New year Newton's cradle

Good article from researcher Tracey Wilen-Daugenti of Apollo Research Institute Read it here.

Some points I like:
“Develop an authentic personal brand.” That means, she says, expect your resume to be fact-checked and your social marketing posts to come back to haunt you.

“Embrace the unpredictable and serendipitous.” Hey, haven’t i been saying this for years? Yes … research shows that’s how most of us end up where we are.

“Keep your skills – especially high-tech ones – up to ate.” Yes! If you’re stuck in a job you hate, work on skills and marketability.

I’m a little skeptical about the advice to choose sectors. I know lots of people who are thriving in sectors that are considered low-growth, and I know people who are struggling in high-growth IT jobs. Be aware of your own skills and talents and find a culture and environment where you will thrive.
