Twitter for job hunting
If you’re considering a career change or job search, by all means get on Twitter.
You’ll find a number of career consultants and HR managers have set up accounts. Most offer links to free and low-cost resources. For instance, you can follow:
http://twitter.com/Resume_
Yes, that’s “Resume” with an underscore.

When you set up your Twitter account:
(1) Your one-line bio should be quite general. “Project manager for Fortune 50 high-tech company. BA Engineering Purdue. Sailing, dogs, hiking. http:…..”
(2) The http would be a budurl.com or tinyurl.com abbreviation of a link to a web page where you briefly summarize information about yourself. Don’t post your whole resume, especially if you’re employed.
(3) If you’re not employed, you can have a line, “Resume available on request.” Then you can (and should) screen requests from hiring managers and recruiters.
(4) Make sure your posts are neutral. While business owners will write edgy posts to draw attention to yourself, yours should be vanilla flavored: interesting but not overwhelming. For example, you can comment on a business book or newspaper story.
(5) Write only what you’d want your current or future boss to see. They’re probably reading, too!
